Finding the Right Keywords

Finding the right keywords to target is not an easy project. There are many factors that need to be checked in order to choose a good keyword.

1. Firstly the most important thing is to find keywords that have decent monthly searches. There are many free tools available to check this. Refer to previous blog post on best keyword research tools.

2. Secondly you can use a tool like Google Keyword External Tool to find related keywords, or use the Wonder Wheel feature in Google Search.

What is SEO ?

Recently, during my search for additional keywords and phrases for new optimized content on my own website I noticed, while using Google Insights for Search, that the phrase “What is SEO” is defined as one of the “rising searches”.

This was wonderful news for me as:

1. It means that more people are becoming aware of SEO and trying to find out what it is
2. It means that when someone asks me what I do there is more of a chance that they will have an idea than they did in the past when I often encountered blank or bewildered faces and had to try and explain what is SEO
3. It means that hopefully more people will realize that this is a science, is extremely time-consuming, and that probably an experienced SEO consultant should be involved, at least at the beginning of the project, which means more work for SEO consultants like myself

The Best Keyword Research Tools for SEO

Let’s start at the very beginning, that’s a very good place to start, when you sing you begin with A B C – remember that from the Sound of Music ?? well I just added a line “when you web you begin with S E O“.

Anyhow, I really think that a website should start of with an SEO project. Doesn’t it seem such a waste of time and effort to write loads of content for a website before researching what terms your potential customers are really using when they search for your product or solution?

There are many free keyword tools out there to use for your SEO project and I, personally, don’t see any reason to pay for keyword tools. Basically they are only using the same data resources as the free tools.
